Water Problems Continue

Some 40,000 customers across Northern Ireland continue to experience real difficulties with water supplies following the thaw and the resulting high numbers of burst water pipes. It is likely that problems will persist for a number of days yet, possibly into the New Year. Particular groups are vulnerable to a loss of fresh water, including the elderly who cannot get to water distribution points and families with very young children, and in parts of Northern Ireland there are now fears for public health.
People should check to ensure that they have no burst or leaking pipes and report any incidences immediately to NI Water. Business owners are also asked to visit premises and check the condition of pipe work and report any leakages.
Councils in some of the worst affected areas are offering free showers and water to people without a mains supply.
