Citizens Advice Attends Money Week

money week

The Financial Capability Partnership NI in association with Fermanagh District Council held a week long programme of events across Fermanagh to help people take control of their money and make it work for them.  Money Week was held between the 6th and 12th March 2010.

Citizens Advice was involved in a number of different events during Money Week:

  • Staff from Fermanagh CAB were in attendance at the Money Market event for Saturday shoppers to help them get tips on managing their money;
  • Fermanagh CAB held a drop in advice session on maximising income which offered people the chance to come along to the bureau and have a holistic benefits check to ensure they were in receipt of all the benefits they were entitled to;
  •  Two advisers from Fermanagh CAB formed part of the panel of experts at the Penny for your thoughts event chaired by Linda McAuley from BBC Radio Ulster.  The advisers were there to provide advice on benefits and debt issues;
  • The Citizens Advice Young People and Money project provided a free money management training day for youth practitioners working with disengaged young people aged 14-25.  This included an overview of the local CAB debt advice service provided through Fermanagh CAB;
  • Citizens Advice and Northern Bank provided an information session for youth workers to provide information on the Money Talks toolkit.  The event was open to youth workers and volunteers from the Fermanagh District Council area;
  • Local Northern Bank and Citizens Advice staff took post primary school pupils through their award-winning education resource Money Talks for young people aged 11 to 16.
