New Online Benefits Calculator Launched
19 November 2009
The Department for Social Development had today (19th November 2009) launched a new online benefit calculator. This calculator will allow people to check if they might be entitled to receive some social security benefits and, where it identifies eligibility, will try to gove some indication of the amount of benefit the person could receive.
The Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie said "The online benefit calculator will suit our customers with a physical disability, those with a desire to remain anonymous, or those who cannot contact an office during working hours. People across Northern Ireland will now be able to find out what benefits they may be entitled to and receive an estimate as to how much they could be getting, all from the comfort of their own home."
The calculator, which can be found at www.nidirect.gov.uk/benefits-adviser can be used free of charge and accessed 24 hours a day. Users can also use the service to get a benefits estimation on someone else's behalf. The calculator is used anonymously, with no names or National Insurance Numbers required.
Those availing of the new service should remember that the calculator can provide only a guide to what the user might be entitled to and that the results given are dependant on the accuracy of the information inputted.
Anyone seeking further advice about whether they are entitled to Benefits should contact their local Citizens Advice Bureau.back
