Citizens Advice Attends Treasury Select Committee

Press Release

 2 February 2009

Citizens Advice has been invited to attend the Treasury Select Committee Inquiry into the Banking Crisis to be held at Stormont on Monday 2nd March 2009.

The Committee is gathering evidence of a number of key areas including protecting consumers.

Scott Kennerley, Money Advice Project Manager stated,

‘Citizens Advice welcomes the opportunity to present information on the experiences of our client’s during this banking crisis. Between 2006 and 2008 the Dealing with Debt Service dealt with over £28 million of debt in Northern Ireland and demand for advice is now fast outpacing supply.

Our recommendations to the committee will include increased resources for advice provision, an increase in the debt resolution methods available to those in debt and tighter regulation of the finance industry’
