Dealing With Debt

DETI logoIn 2005 Citizens Advice embarked on a pilot project for the delivery of face to face debt advice across Northern Ireland. In 2006 we were awarded a contract by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) to continue this advice for the period 2006 - 2008.

For the financial year 2006 - 2007 the project helped close to 2,000 people and dealt with over £15,000,000 of debt.

The project has been an overwhelming success, providing specialist debt advice in a professional manner to people who for a number of reasons have lost control of their financial situation.

For almost 20 years Citizens Advice has been the leading provider of face to face money advice across Northern Ireland and together with the support of the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) the organisation will continue to provide free, confidential, impartial money advice as well as social commentary on the increasing problem of debt to inform government policy.

Below you will find a copy of the annual report for the project and a downloadable self-help pack. If you want to manage your own debt situation the self-help pack is a useful step-by-step guide through the process.

Some other resources are available in the Get Advice section of our site.

However, if you feel that you would like some support or guidance you can contact your local bureau.
