Vote for Macmillan CAB
The Macmillan CAB Welfare Benefits Advice Service based at Belfast City Hospital has made it through to the semi-finals in a search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects.
This is one of just ten projects chosen from hundreds of entries to face a public vote to find the Best Health Project (in association with Femalefirst.co.uk).
The service helps people affected by cancer from across Northern Ireland to get the financial help they’re entitled to and it’s certainly a problem worth tackling: Macmillan’s research shows that financial worries are second only to physical pain as a cause of stress for cancer patients. In its first year of operation the service saw over 1500 patients and families and helped them claim in excess of £2m in benefits.
As Angela Scullion from Lurgan said: “Coping with cancer and going through treatment was stressful enough without having the added worry of trying to make ends meet financially, paying the cost of travelling to hospital for treatment and heating my home, all at a time when I was unable to work. The Macmillan CAB Service was a real lifeline in helping us to access the advice, support and financial help we needed at a very difficult time in our lives”.
To help us get through to the final and be in with a chance of winning £2000, please take a minute to vote for us.
