National Stalking Helpline Launched

A new National Stalking Helpline has been launched that will offer personal safety advice and guidance on how to collect evidence as well as dealing with malicious emails and silent phone calls.
The service, launched on Thursday 29th April, is funded in part by the Government and in part by private donations, and has been developed by several charities already working in this field (The Network for Surviving Stalking, the Suzy Lamplugh Trust and Protection Against Stalking) in conjunction with the Police.
The British Crime Survey concluded in 2004 that every year 1.2 million women and 900,000 men become victims of stalking. However, research indicated that three-quarters of victims do not contact the police until they have suffered at least 100 incidents. The new service aims to encourage victims to come forward by offering a range of ways to get advice.
You can call the helpline during opening hours on 0300 636 0300.The telephone helpline is open from 09:30am to 16:00pm weekdays except Wednesdays when it is open 13:00 to 16:00. The Helpline will not open on bank holidays.
The cost of calling the Helpline is the same price as a standard landline call to a national number (i.e. an 01 or 02 number); the price is the same for calls from mobiles.
Remember, if you feel that you are in immediate danger call 999.
