Information and Outreach for Ethnic Minority and Migrant Worker Communities
Citizens Advice and Women of the World organised an Information and Outreach Day for Ethnic Minority and Migrant Workers held at the Clinton Centre in Enniskillen last weekend. Over a hundred people attended and were able to access information about their rights and the services available to them.
Women of the World, Citizens Advice, Fermanagh CAB, the Equality Commission, PSNI Community Safety Unit, South West College, Fermanagh Women’s Network and Women in Agriculture all provided support desks offering information and advice covering all issues that affect Migrant Workers and people from Ethnic Minority communities. The event was officially launched by the Chairman of Fermanagh District Council, Cllr Robert Irvine, who talked about what both Migrant Workers and Ethnic Minority communities bring to Fermanagh and the importance of their contribution. Many of his colleagues from Fermanagh District Council also attended to show their support.
The event was sponsored by The Carnegie Trust who also funded Citizens Advice to produce informational materials on employment rights, the Worker Registration Scheme and social welfare in eight languages. Natasha Francis, Training Officer from Citizens Advice explained how the chosen languages and frequently asked questions were identified by advisers working with Migrant Workers and those from Minority Ethnic communities.
Siobhán Peoples, Manager of Fermanagh CAB said, “We are delighted to take part in this event because it brings such benefit for such a large proportion of our client base. We want to thank Citizens Advice and Women of the World for hosting this event.”
Anita Murkherjee, of Women of the World said,“ The people came and got the information that they need. That’s what’s important.”
