Citizens Advice attends Law Fair

Louise Kyne, Legal Support Officer and Siobhán Harding from Citizens Advice at the Law Fair at Queens University

Citizens Advice attended the Law Fair at Queens University, Belfast to talk to law students about the possibility of volunteering with the charity.

As an organisation Citizens Advice relies heavily on the contribution of volunteers to ensure the delivery of a high quality frontline service.  Citizens Advice Bureaux could not function in providing services to those most in need without the work of volunteers and this has been very effectively demonstrated during the recent recession.

Citizens Advice offers a wide range of volunteering opportunities which enable volunteers to best utilise their skills and experience to make a difference to the lives of others.  In addition to traditional adviser roles the organisation is interested in recruiting volunteers with an interest in the following roles:
• Interpreter
• IT
• Podcasting
• Social networking
• Librarian
• Administration
• Social policy

Citizens Advice is the largest advice charity in Northern Ireland and in the last year dealt with over 317,000 queries with bureaux delivering high quality advice and information on just about everything from consumer problems, debt and benefit issues to housing, employment and legal matters.

CAB requires a commitment of six hours per week for at least one year.  All kinds of people have the skills the organisation needs and no specific qualifications are required before you start, though good communication, literacy and numeracy skills and essential.  Training and support are available every step of the way.

For more information about volunteering you can contact your nearest CAB office, visit www.citizensadvice.co.uk/en/Volunteer/ or alternatively contact Janet at CAB Regional Office on 028 9023 1120 to request a volunteer pack.
