The government has joined forces with energy suppliers, Citizens Advice, Consumer Focus, Age UK and Which? to offer tips and advice on how to save money on your gas and electricity bill.

Tip number 1: Check if there is a cheaper way to pay

You could save money on your energy bills by paying by direct debit. On average those who do pay this way can save around £100 per year so it might be worth checking to see if this is an option for you.

Tip number 2: Switch to a different energy supplier

While the choice of energy firms available to customers in Northern Ireland might not be quite as wide as in the Mainland UK, it is still possible to save money by switching your gas, electricity or home heating oil provider.

Tip number 3: Insulate your home

A fully insulated home could save you around £100 per year on your energy bills so it is well worth checking out what improvements could be made in your house.

Visit  www.warm-homes.com to find out if you might be eligible for assistance in insulating your home.

You can also carry out a Home Energy Check by visiting www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/northernireland/In-your-home/Home-Energy-Check. This tool will look at the energy you use throughout your house and see what improvements might be made to save money.
