Who is qualified to serve
To be qualified to serve on a jury, a person must be 18 or over and under 70 on the day s/he starts jury service, be on the electoral register and be liable for jury service.
Who is not liable for jury service
A person may not be liable for jury service if:- s/he has been convicted of certain criminal offences; s/he holds or has held any paid, judicial or other post belonging to any court in Northern Ireland; s/he is suffering or has suffered certain mental disorders; s/he is a member of the armed forces; s/he is employed in a certain profession, for example, members of Parliament and the Northern Ireland Assembly, public officials, members of the clergy, teachers, doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, vets and chemists; s/he is unable to understand the English language.
