RBL logoThis free and confidential service was first launched in Northern Ireland in October 2009, with a telephone advice helpline being added in April 2011.

With five trained advisers in Northern Ireland, we provide free and confidential advice to serving and ex-service personnel, their families and carers for dealing with money worries, including checking entitlement to state benefits and dealing with debt.

One of our RBL/RAFBF advisers praised the service, commenting: ‘‘A career soldier, living in army accommodation, may have little knowledge of things like rent and household costs when they are discharged. Suddenly they have to start from scratch and may not understand operating a budget. Many have accumulated debts while in service".

A recent client who used the service said ‘‘I was at my wits’ end. The knowledge that someone would confidentially assist with my problems, was a real relief.”

This year alone we have assisted with 686 enquiries, clients have benefited by receiving an additional £715,980 in benefit entitlement and £166,215 reduction in debt.

The Benefits and Money Advice service, funded by the Royal British Legion and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and provided by Citizens Advice, offers confidential advice and support to the Forces and ex-Forces community and their families and carers throughout N. Ireland, ensuring that those who served, and their families & carers, have the help and support they need to deal with benefits and debt concerns.

Calls to the confidential helpline will be charged at standard BT local call rates. Calls from mobile phones or other providers may be higher.
